Some people are always afraid of new technology, and this blog post shows that it's oftentimes people who will later benefit from that same technology:

That was my Great Grandpappy's job they were taking away...he was the backstage stud mando/banjo/guitar player while the good looking folks with no talent were on the stage lip-syncing. He stood out of sight and did the actual playing while the stage performers "acted" like they were getting down.

These days they just plug in the recording and Madonna moves her lips in a way almost like singing.
